We are all aware of the stereotype that SUVs (sport utility vehicles) are gas guzzlers that take $70+ to fill and get surprisingly low miles per gallon. However, if you are looking to buy a new or used SUV, there are some great models out there that will give you the best miles per gallon (mpg) for your buck. Wade Auto has compiled a list of some of the best mpg SUV options.
Find an SUV with Good Gas Mileage
Buying an SUV is a great option if you are looking for something that offers both cargo room and space for passengers. The great thing about SUVs today is that you can find some options that have fantastic fuel economy. Below is a list of five SUVs you should look into if you want an SUV with good gas mileage.
1. Subaru Outback
If you choose the base engine for Subaru Outback you can expect 25 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway. Not the top of the charts when it comes to good SUV gas mileage, but it does touch the end of most lists for best mpg SUVs. It is a great basic SUV model if you are a first- time buyer and want to ease into the world of SUVs.
2. Nissan Rogue
The Nissan Rogue is a good choice when considering mpg. With 26 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway, it is just slightly better than the Subaru. The Rogue can get a bit cramped because of its three rows of seating. However, there is also a hybrid option available that offers 33 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway if you want to spend a bit more. If you have a goal to find the best mpg SUV out there, then the hybrid Rogue might be your best bet.
3. Jaguar F-Pace
The F-Pace has the Jaguar name behind it and a pretty good mpg for an SUV. At 26 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway, you can do much worse than this beautiful machine. However, the base price for this vehicle is what you would expect from its maker, starting at $47,270. Definitely one of the more expensive SUVs on this list, but a beautiful one to be sure that also has good gas mileage.
4. Nissan Kicks
The second Nissan to grace this list, the Kicks is a great option if you are worried about gas mileage and is almost $30,000 cheaper than the F-Pace and also has better mpg. With 31 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway, the Nissan Kicks should definitely be at the top of your list of the best mpg SUVs. The downside to the Kicks, however, is it has weaker horsepower than most of the SUVs on this list. If power isn’t a top priority for you, then this might be the right choice for you.
5. Honda CR-V
A smaller SUV, but still roomy nonetheless, the Honda CR-V is another good choice when it comes to fuel efficiency. While you may only get 20 mpg in the city, you can get up to 37 mpg on the highway, so take that into consideration when looking around for the best SUV for your needs. The CR-V offers a smooth, steady ride that is both quiet and comfortable.
If you are interested in buying an SUV, then this list is a must-have and a great way to learn more about the models you are interested in. Conduct a few test drives, find one that fits your style, and start saving those MPGs!
